How Much Does a Website Cost?

part of a twenty pound note

According to one newspaper report, Manchester City Football Club’s new website cost £2 million. It's a very good website, but … two million?

If you think that’s expensive, Serco walked off with £35 million for creating and running the government’s Business Link website!

Needless to say, we don’t charge quite as much as that.

Web Design Prices

The cost of a website depends largely on the time taken to create it. The price of a professional, made–to–measure website will depend on:

  • The complexity of the website’s structure.
  • The intricacy of the graphic design.
  • The extent of the search engine optimisation required.

Time is Money

A small, basic website may take only a day or two to create, while a large corporate site may take a couple of months or more.

The cost of a web designer’s time will vary, of course. A big agency, with expensive overheads to pay for, may well charge over £1000 per day, while your next–door neighbour’s cousin’s teenaged offspring will probably do it for free.

Our Website Prices

As a very rough guide, a professional website will cost about as much as a television. At one end of the scale, you can buy a small but perfectly good TV for a couple of hundred pounds. A huge, top–of–the–range set, on the other hand, will cost several thousand. According to a survey by the software company Actinic in 2007, the average price of a fully–featured e–commerce website was around £3300.

Each website project will have its own demands. Our flexible pricing policy ensures that you get all the features you want, without paying for features you don’t need.

Another thing you will not be paying is 20% VAT. We are a small business, and do not charge VAT.

An Even Cheaper Option

Are we too expensive? If you think that even £250 is too much to invest in a website, you will probably end up using a cowboy web designer instead. Please feel free to get in touch with us after they mess up, if you are still in business by then.
